Most new parents want to make sure that they are fully prepared for their baby’s arrival. As they should be! Getting released from the hospital is exciting and scary. But knowing that you have what you will need for that first trip home will bring a small bit of relief.
But their travel safety is just as needed.
Two of the main components of getting your baby home are a safe and comfortable car seat for the little one and an easy to use stroller for the parents.
Here is a breakdown of options (and what to look for when you are choosing yours) for some amazing travel items you will need to get your little bundle of joy home!
Hospitals will not let you leave (with your baby) without a car seat.
There are so many great ones out there. The two main options that you have are a bucket car seat with a base or a convertible seat that is installed directly in your car. The convertible seats can be both rear and front facing.
Most people go with the carrier/bucket seat for newborns. It is easy to clip into a matching stroller and to carry your baby around in.
Finding what is important to you is a necessity. I knew that I wanted a lightweight carrier that had a small width size to fit into my car. Other options are if you would like a full travel system all in one, easy to carry or just a pretty color!
After much research I had narrowed my search down to two carriers.
Although one of the more expensive options. This is easily one of the lightest carriers out there.
At just about 7 pounds in weight this was a very high contender in my search. This has different types of attachments and options for your seat and stroller (which will be explained further in the stroller section).
For this pregnancy, this is the one we went with. Although a little heavier than the Baby Jogger, this was 10 inches smaller in width.
After finding out that I would need two car seats, the width became very important to me due to the size of my car. They were both amazing options and I know many people that love their Baby Jogger City Go car seat.
So whether you are having multiples or if you just have a smaller car, the Chicco KeyFit is the perfect option.
Convertible Car Seat
Due to being pregnant with two babies, the chance of them coming home underweight was high. So we knew we wanted to start with a bucket seat.
However, we did end up buying our convertible seats when the babies were a little over half a year old. These also had an appropriate weight limit for newborns!
We already loved our bucket seats so much and really trust the brand.
These beautiful seats come in different colors and we happened to get them during an amazing price drop on Amazon.
I highly recommend this for your child’s seat. Along with the style, this seat is reversible and can be reclined in both front and back positions.
Everything you will need well throughout toddler years!
This option will highly be dependent on the type of car seat you get. If you get a Convertible seat and plan on removing the baby each time you park the car, than any of these options will work.
If you get a carrier, it will have a stroller option that is made for your seat. Which heightens the safety factor for travel. Peace of Mind!
This option has an all in one package. The Baby Jogger City Mini GT Travel System is lightweight, easy to fold and easily attaches to their car seat.
This all in one system includes your stroller, car seat, one car seat base and more!
I have so many friends that have loved this single stroller!
We heard so many raves that we ended up getting the Baby Jogger 2016 City Mini Double Stroller when we transferred out of the bucket seats. You can recline one at a time or both, which is great for naps or feeding. So many attachment options that you can add to make it your own. Like cup holders and front bars!
This double stroller is amazing for babies more than 16 lbs and your toddlers and older children as well! Also fits through all doorways!
For our first stroller we kept to the Chicco brand. We wanted a tandem stroller to ensure that we could fit through doorways while the babies were still in their bucket seats.
I could not even stress how much I loved this stroller.
It did take a little time to learn how to maneuver. However, it didn’t take long to learn and once you do it is smooth sailing.
This stroller is also for your growing babies/ toddlers so you do not need to get a new one once they are out of their bucket seats!
Also a great option if you have a toddler and a newborn. You can interchange where your toddler sits and where the car seat sits. Both safe!
For a less expensive option, and if you went with the Chicco Bucket Seat, we have the Stroller Frame.
This is a lightweight option that only holds your child when they are still in their bucket seats.
This is a great option if you don’t want to decide on your larger stroller until your children are ready to be in one without their car seat.
This is a single bucket seat frame is made directly for a Chicco Car Seat. Small, convenient and easy to move.
This is a universal (made for most bucket car seats) option. When you have two car seats, room in your vehicle can be limited.
This stroller is amazing simple to use and even easier to fold for easy storage in your car.
In the end
It all depends on what you truly want from your traveling system. Lightweight, easy to move, slimmer in size, easily fold-able?
Amazon has an great feature that if you check out one of their car seats, they will show you the comparison to the closest three like it.
You will be able to tell which is the best for you and your little one.
What traveling system are you taking your little one home in?
