One of my favorite quotes from a friend was:
Do babies really need the monogrammed clothes with matching wallpaper and a crib that turns into a car?
The simplest answer is no.
You do not need the magazine picture perfect nursery for your little one. As most things that happen in the first few years of a baby’s life, it’s for the parents.
Like their first birthday. I threw my twins a huge Mickey Mouse themed party. Did they love it? I don’t know. Because they are babies and can’t talk yet. But I love Disney. So they got a Mickey party.
But I’m getting past what this is actually about.
Some items are expensive. But there are ways around this to save money. Making your registry or shopping on Amazon is a great way to save.
At baby stores, items are priced higher due to their registries. Other people buying things for you.
But sometimes, that’s not the case. Amazon has the (mostly) lowest prices.
To start. For safety purposes, you need a great crib.
And really no matter how you look at it, they are pretty expensive. They also expire. So getting one from a friend, may not be an option. But finding deals on cribs IS POSSIBLE. So naturally, it’s first on the list!
My little girl is sleeping in a Graco Lauren Convertible Crib. I know! I got a crib for my daughter named after me. That was just by chance.
This crib is easy to set up and even easier to change. Lowering this crib is so simple. One night, we realized right before bedtime, that it would be safer to lower. It took only minutes to change it and double check its safety.
And the price was just right for us.
Another option, Graco Benton Convertible Crib. Beautifully crafted and extremely easy to build. Very similar but colors vary and has a different look to it.
Price still good!
Also keep in mind: you’ll need to get a great mattress. I love Sealy’s mattresses. Like this one!
Whether or not there is a full sized closet in your bedroom, you DO NOT NEED a professional closet organizer for your baby.
There is no need to call a company into your house to design you something for their little clothes to hang on. You will just need to have it removed once they are in larger sizes.
You also do not need a shoe organizer. They don’t need shoes until they can walk.
I went with Delta Children Nursery Closet Organizer. This is one of the least expensive and most wonderful options out there. It is easy to install and even easier to remove!
Children grow up fast. Sometimes it is hard to see that when you are pregnant and want the perfect nursery for your child. But they won’t need a nursery forever.
Those large, expensive organizers aren’t necessary.
Money is well spent on a good monitor. I did so much research when looking for ours. I wanted good range since my nursery is on the second floor. I also knew I wanted a great picture and one with a wide, movable camera.
I got this two camera viewing system because I was having twins. But I also recommend for just one baby also.
Once you need to turn that crib into a toddler bed, having two cameras available to see the whole room is so helpful with your little toddler.
They will get into stuff! Hopefully everything is in their locked closet. But for the things that aren’t, you need to be able to view every corner of their room.
The Vtech Baby Monitor has a movable camera, so after installed you can tilt until you are happy with your view. Easy parent unit to switch from camera A to B. Zoom in/ Zoom out.
It has it all.
This can sometimes be the most expensive item on your registry. Getting those all in one bedding packages at your favorite baby store.
I am so sorry to break the news. They are not necessary.
For the first 12 months, the only thing (after putting a sheet on the mattress) that goes into the crib, is your baby.
I was lucky enough to have an amazing friend make me my babies first blankets and pillows. They are 13 months old now and have still not gotten to use them. They will! But not yet.
I’m not saying that you can’t get these beautiful sets of bedding for your nursery. But they are not necessary if you are looking to save.
I recommend purchasing some great, neutral crib sheets for your baby: like these. Saving you money. Then when their first birthday or second Christmas comes around, you can get some blankets for your little one to love.
This is not a necessity. But I love ours. Skip Hop Moonlight and Melodies Nightlight Soother: Owl is one of the best things that I got.
We even take this on vacations with us, just to have for the babies to feel a little bit at home while they sleep. This machine has so many different light and sound options. It’s super lightweight and easy to move.
It’s not a need, but I highly recommend and love ours!
There really is no need for fancy night tables or installed closet organizers. There are so many ways to save on the set up for your nursery.
If you want extras, like for wall decorating: get prints of your family to hang up.
We actually received prints from a book, ripped out and framed for our baby shower. That is now our wall decorations for the nursery. Or make a banner! Handmade wall decorations are beautiful.
What is your number one nursery need?
