Learning at an early age is so important. Whether you are reading or talking to your baby, they are learning. A lot of parents think that reading to a baby before the age of one is pointless. I absolutely believe it is not.
Repetition is key with younger babies. They love doing the same thing over and over. I am the type of parent that loves a schedule. Everyday at the same time, doing the same thing.
Repetition is key to keeping your baby calm and happy.
Having book time in our family’s schedule helps keep it simple and easy to teach your child. I’m not saying teaching them how to read before they are one. But if you do that please tell me your secrets!
But sitting down with your baby or even your older child to read them a book and excitedly point out the pictures is a great learning experience for the whole family.
Having a wide variety of books about colors, animals and love around your child can teach them their first word, noises and even compassion.
These books should be simple and easy to read.
I was lucky enough that my sister had my shower guests bring me a book instead of a card. The wide variety of baby books we received was overwhelming.
I soon went through each book and saw the endless possibilities of learning for my twins.
Each book has it’s own message. Although it may take a while for them to understand or learn words, each book in repetition is helping them daily.
This story is about a mommy (or daddy) polar bear that brings her two little ones to swim for the first time. Teaching your baby to be daring but that their parents are always there for them.
An adorable book where each page has a hole to semi view the page after. As your littles go through this book they will get more and more curious to what could be on the next page. Last page with a mirror so they can really enjoy being in the book themselves.
This book is a story very similar to Toy Story where the toys come alive. One awakens and wishes he had his friends to have fun with. By the end you learn of adventure and fun.
An adorably, hilarious book with pigs. Each page is a high number of pigs relaxing with well known objects. Learning number and words are so easy and fun with this book.
This and the next on the list are two of my favorites. Mommy Hugs goes through different animals and their babies. How they give each other there hugs.
Another absolute must have. With completely different animal than Mommy Hugs, this book goes through new animals to show how daddy loves his baby.
A beautiful read. I know all parents love telling their little ones how much they love them. This book follows big bear and little bear through all of they ways they love their baby cub.
Baby Animals (1)
Baby Animals goes through different types of animals and it a touch and feel book. Each page has an animal with fur or sparkle. A great way to go through animals and animal sounds with your toddler.
Baby Animals (2)
Very similar to the one above but some pages are open pages. Meaning you can open a door and see more behind it. Like if you open a shell you find a baby chick behind. Great for simple motor skills.
This large collection of Nursery Rhymes is an amazing way to get almost all the stories from your childhood into one book. From Hickory Dickory Dock to Itsy Bitsy Spider and all in between. This book also has new and longer stories to sit and read when you baby is ready for a longer tale.
I do prefer the hardcover books with hard pages. I can leave them out to explore on their own without the risk of losing a few pages to drool and new teeth.
Getting your baby into the love of reading early is really key in the learning process. To show them that you love sitting down to talk with them or teaching them something new in the process is a great feeling.
